The Vicar of Nibbleswicke

I love quite a lot of Roald Dahl’s book. My most favorite is Matilda and his first biography book Boy: tales of childhood (not the illustrated version). But this latest short story from him (and his last book according to the preface) is my newest addition.

Blurb:

The Reverend Lee is suffering from a rare and acutely embarrassing condition: Back-to-Front Dyslexia. It affects only his speech, and he doesn’t realize he’s doing it, but the parishioners of Nibbleswicke are shocked and confused by his seemingly outrageous comments. At last a cure is found and the mild-mannered vicar can resume normal service. Or at least as normal as is possible for a man who must walk backwards to be sure of talking forwards!

I borrowed this book from the library thinking that it will the same experience as his other books, but no, this one is funny from beginning to the end. There are way to many hilarious moments in the book, like the time when he saw a group of women knitting. Instead of saying knit, he said it backward. The result? He told that all of them “stink” haha 😀

However, my most favorite part is this scene:

“Dear people, it is hardly my place as a newcomer to start making rules so early in my incumbency, but there is just one thing I feel I must mention. The road outside our little church is exceedingly narrow and as you know there is hardly room for two vehicles to pass each other. Therefore I feel it only right to ask members of the congregation not to krap all along the front of the church before the service. It is not only unsightly but it is also dangerous. If you all krap at the same time all along the side of the road you could be hit by a passing car at any time. There is plenty of room for you to do this alongside the church on the south side if you feel you must.”

I was laughing so hard, I temporary had to stop reading to ease my stomach cramps.
