La Doña – review

Back when I was a teenager there was a Spanish series in the Philippines, Marimar. I was very addicted to the series, but sadly school got in the way and I never had the chance to see the end until I bought the DVD. Ever since then I been on the hunt to find other of Thalia’s series, but I found nothing. Lucky for me I lived in Spain so I can watch other series. Now that we’re taking a vacation in Norway, internet is my only way and I bumped into La Doña. A story of a gang rape victim which resulted in pregnancy. She abandoned her daughter, Monica, with a wealthy man whom she married (and robbed of his wealth) after letting him think that he’s the father of her child. Years later, the mother and daughter met and fell in love with the same man.

Saul, Altagracia y Monica

And god, how I hated the mother, Altagracia. The writers spend so much time making me hate her, but when all the secrets were out, I cried and cried. I cried a bucket and screamed deep inside for them to reconcile but, of course it wasn’t easy, but I just keep falling for the mother ever since.

On the other side, I actually felt bad for Rafael. He’s arrogant, selfish and I saw nothing positive about him, but a tiny part of him, the father part of him and how he put so much importance on his relatives that he was willing to throw away his pride to be forgiven. Personally, I think that he should pay for his crimes, but at the same time, I think he also deserved Monica’s forgiveness.

And I’m sorry to say but I hated Monica. Not at the first episodes, but around the last 25 episodes. She did make me cry when she called Altagracia “mom.” The one I dislike the most though is Saul. He’s a good guy but… I don’t know, I just don’t like him.

And last thing I want to say. I’m so damn in love with Daniel Lamas and Matamoros. Oh, how many times I wish for Altagracia to fell for Matamoros, but of course, it’s just a wish.

Did you hear that there is a 2nd season coming out?? There’s already a trailer out!! Apparently, Monica and Saul are still together. -_- From what I see in the trailer, Saul is dead!! They just say that he’s missing but they found a body and it looks like him!! Idk if it is or not, but The 2nd season is coming Jan. 13th!! I can’t wait to see what happens!!

Hi!! I don’t know if you have heard, but Telemundo is airing Season 1 again before Jan. 13th!! (Season 2 premiere) Although I can’t stand to see Altagracia get hurt all over again. 🙁 I’m actually watching right now!! I’m so mad. I hate Saul. I’m a huge Saul and Altagracia shipper but Monica got into the mix and grew her feelings for him. When they (Monica and Saul) broke up, I wished that they stayed broken up I hope Monica is happy. >:( I felt so bad for Altagracia. ;-:

Yes, I feel you. Saul made Altagracia a better woman. And though, I can see the love between Saul and Monica, it feels more like a brother and sister vibe, I just can’t feel the same strong feeling as when Saul was with Altagracia. I really wish to see her true happy ending.

I liked the show but at the same time I didn’t. Monica was kind of annoying at some points and she was so clingy to Saul. Altagracia and Saul were meant to be together. Also, does anyone take notice that Monica looks so young? she literally looks like a teenager!! When they showed the episode involving their “first time”, I was pretty shocked and a little disgusted. She looks too be young to be doing stuff with an older man. Especially someone who was with HER MOTHER. Saul is like 30. He is way too old for her. and it’s kind of disgusting to be with your mom’s man btw. I was so disgusted at the ending. I hated that. The show in general was good but I don’t like how it played out.

I hated the ending too but for a different reason. I did not really take notice if Monica is too young or if Saul is too old because in real life people can looks younger than their age. And even if there’s a big age gap between them was not an issue for me. It was more the characters attitudes that made me hate the two main characters. Like as you said, Monica being too clingy. I would be more satisfied if she ends up with the doctor and Altagracia ends with Matamoros.

I felt exactly the same! I hated Monica! I wanted Altagracia and Saul to end up together but then I soon started to hate him too! He and Monica belong together, they’re both annoying. Dr. Adolfo was way too good for Monica. Hahaha I wanted her to end up with Daniel too but it’s pretty sick considering he raped her.

We’re kindred spirits! Everything you wrote is exactly how I felt. Even about Altagracia falling for Daniel. If they did fell in love, I think I’ll be able to swallow it because he truly repented his sin. But most of all, I wish to see Altagracia and Matamoros as lover. A fan dream haha 😀

Thanks for the recommendation! I search the telenovela and the plot is so much like the series I’m currently watching (almost done watching) called Lo Que La Vida Me Robó. This one is newer so it’s probably a kind of remake. It’s not historical though
